A Legacy of Innovation: The History of Peak Toolworks
In 1941, Arthur “Art” Segal founded North American Products with a pioneering vision: to design and manufacture the first mechanically held, solid carbide blades for high-speed metal machining. This groundbreaking technology marked a significant advancement in industrial tooling and played a crucial role in supporting the United States’ manufacturing efforts during World War II.
Following the war, Mr. Segal continued to drive innovation by developing the first tungsten carbide circular saw blade—a revolutionary product that quickly replaced traditional solid steel blades. These new carbide blades offered dramatically longer production runs and improved cutting accuracy, transforming the landscape of precision machining.
Expanding his influence, Mr. Segal introduced the first carbide-tipped saw blades for cutting wood, hard plastics, and plastic laminates. His numerous patents for carbide-tipped tool designs set industry standards that remain in use today.
In 1957, North American Products established its first sharpening division in Jasper, Indiana, and by 1959, the company relocated its headquarters and manufacturing operations to Jasper, solidifying its position at the heart of American cutting tool manufacturing.
Today, as Peak Toolworks, we continue Mr. Segal's legacy of innovation and quality. From our roots as a regional cutting tool manufacturer, we’ve grown into a major industry leader with manufacturing operations in both the U.S. and Canada.
